Introducing Decorah Chiropractor Dr. Perry Numedahl

The Chiropractor To See in Decorah

If someone would have told me ten years ago, that I would be Dr. Perry from Decorah, I wouldn't have believed it.

You see the last place on earth that I thought I would move my family to begin my career and practice as a chiropractor was Decorah. As a kid, growing up in this area was wonderful, in fact a real blessing. But I believed that once I was "grown up" that Decorah would be a great place to visit, not a great place for me to live. During chiropractic school, I really found a concrete, lasting purpose. That is to help others lead healthier and happier lives through natural chiropractic care. I thought about all those great people "back home", and I knew that's where I had to be.

Many people ask me how or why a became a chiropractor. Do you remember when you where sixteen? That's when I decided that chiropractic was for me. I had a pretty bad shoulder and neck injury after the State Wrestling Tournament my sophomore year. Traditional approaches and drug therapy weren't helping. I was very scared because it seemed like my wrestling career hung in the balance. That's when my very smart mother took me to a chiropractor for the first time. Let me tell you I was skeptical, in fact very skeptical. No the changes in my injury weren't immediate, I didn't get all better that day. But, given some time and chiropractic adjustments I made a remarkable recovery from my injury and noticed some other pretty cool changes in my health.

I attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic, in Bloomington, MN. The basic science program is second to none, with intense study in biology, physiology, anatomy and neurology giving me a great science foundation for my life's work. I have many mentors who since school have really helped me refine just what I'm doing, how I'm doing, and why I'm doing it. These chiropractors share with me something absolutely priceless, their experience. Some of these Chiropractors have been helping people for almost fifty years! They helped me ignite the flame so my passion for helping people through chiropractic care could burn brightly.

I believe that a healthy person is very balanced. I also believe that healthcare must be balanced too. There is a time and place for all forms of healthcare. Drugs and surgery are truly beneficial when used properly. But, it's time to start looking at ourselves as stewards of our own bodies and to do things natural and healthy that promote wellness. The convenient way in most cases isn't the best way for long term health and wellness. To watch entire families come in for their adjustments is truly satisfying. To see someone's health transform and move down a better path is the most fulfilling part of being a chiropractor.

It has been a blessing to be involved in the lives of so many people over the last few years in Decorah. I've had the opportunity to adjust and care for those who were just minutes old, to those who have been around for over a century. It's been so rewarding to be able to do so many health talks and wellness lectures for many churches, schools, businesses and organizations in the community. I have the honor of working with people as a health "coach", sometimes a motivator, and sometimes just a friend. I first met my wife in high school. Her determination, sacrifice, and support has meant so much to me. I'm also a father of three amazing children. It's awesome to watch these wonderful kids grow up healthy. As our kids are getting older, we seem to find more activities to be involved in; football, soccer, baseball and church activities. Hopefully some day that list will include wrestling, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

You'll see that I don't just tell people about the importance of living a healthy life, at our house we put it in motion. Health is a journey, not a destination. Regular chiropractic care is part of our healthy lifestyle. I get weekly adjustments and so does the rest of my family. My wife is a runner, where I like to walk, with an occasional run here and there. We are both involved in kettleball strength training workouts, two to three days a week. Nutrition is important to us because you build a strong body by putting the right fuel in it. But I still love chocolate and we have to remember to make life fun.

"Enough about me! How can we help you achieve better health through natural chiropractic care? Give us a call so we can help you get started toward wellness today."
